Position: Reader
Dr. Idris Olabode Badiru is a Reader at the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, University of Ibadan, where he conducts researches in the area of development communication and project impact assessment.
He teaches courses such as Diffusion and Adoption of Innovations, Community Development Practice, Development Communication (Theories and Practice), Behavioural Change Communication, Contemporary Issues in Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Journalism at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He also facilitates course components such as Development Communication and Diffusion of Innovations in the MBA (Agribusiness) programme of the UI School of Business.
Before joining the academia, Dr. Badiru worked with rural communities across Southwest Nigeria, first as a community journalist with the defunct Ibarapa Watch Magazine, later as a community facilitator in the Second National Fadama Development Project and afterwards as support officer in the Southwest Zonal Office of the Third National Fadama Development Project.
He has over 19 years’ cognate experience in planning, management, monitoring and evaluation of development projects in Nigeria and has consulted for governments at different strata in managing World Bank Assisted rural development projects such as Fadama, WAAPP and APPEALS. He has participated in a number of Joint World Bank/FGN Supervision Missions to different states in Nigeria.
He was a guest researcher at the Nordic Africa Institute, Uppsala, Sweden and a fellow of AgriFoSe 2030 programme. He is currently a Senior Fellow in the Agriculture Sectoral Deepening Cluster of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group’s Non-Residential Fellowship Programme. He is also the Extension Specialist for PROSSIVA Yam Project at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA)
Dr. Badiru has over 50 peer reviewed publications to his credit. He is the General Secretary of Rural Sociological Association of Nigeria (RuSAN) and a proud member of Agricultural Extension Society of Nigeria (AESON).
