Dr. Prince E. Norman holds a Bachelor of Science in Crop Science from Njala University College, University of Sierra Leone (1999-2003), a Master of Science in Crop Science from Njala University, Sierra Leone (2005-2006); a Master of Science in Plant Breeding from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), South Africa (2009-2011); and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Plant Breeding from the West African Center for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana (UG), Ghana (2016-2019). Dr. Norman joined the National Agricultural Research Coordinating Council (NARCC) in March, 2004 as a Research Assistant and was assigned to work on yam at the Institute of Agricultural Research (IAR), Njala. He currently works for the Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute (SLARI), and assigned at the Njala Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) as Plant Breeder (Plant Scientist). He has conducted a number of studies on yams, cocoyam, rice, maize, sweetpotato, cowpea and other crops.

Dr. Norman was a Research Fellow (2016-2019) at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Nigeria where he conducted his PhD research. His research was supported by the International Development Research Center (IDRC) under the IDRC/CORAF-WECARD/IITA sub-grant agreement for developing capacity for Agricultural Research in Sub-Saharan Africa (PJ-2126) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) through the AfricaYam project (OPP1052998). He has published over 55 articles in reputable journals; mentored over 40 graduate and post-graduate students in their projects; and served as coach for many colleagues and in various leadership roles including secretary, International Association of Research Scholars and Fellows (IARSAF), Symposium Committee, IITA, leader of the yam and cocoyam crops value chains; and currently serves as the Deputy Director General, Research, Technology and Innovation Development, SLARI.

He is a reviewer of more than 10 journal houses and have reviewed over 100 certified manuscripts. He is an editor and a member of many national and international scientific bodies, etc. Dr. Norman received “Best Researcher Award” on 21/11/2020 and 23/10/2021 by VDGOOD International Scientist Awards in Engineering, Science and Medicine, Visakhapatnam, India. He has released one variety of yam known as SLIYAM1 (Sierra Leone Improved Yam 1) and collaborated in the development of several technologies for various end users.
